“Air on The ‘G’ String” The next morning after the devastating attack on Saint Peter’s church in which Antonio had vanquished the evil monster, Loy du Mar, Antonio woke at 3 o’clock, he was tired and sore. He crawled out of bed and took the Gauntlet of Power in his arms and left the inn enroute for Saint Peter’s church. He hesitated on the steps and drew a shaky breath. Then he went in. His eyes cast upon the horrific sight of the charred bodies of Stephan and Adella and Michal. “Innocent blood lost in my church? I think not.” He said and placed the Gauntlet of Power on the altar and spoke, “Sygrace. Guardian of thyChampion of the Gauntlet of Power, hear me I am Antonio Vivaldi, the second to thy Champion who is Johann Pachelbel. I come at this time to ask your restoration of these three lost souls, who were untimely taken by the evil called Loy du Mar. I ask you Sygrace du Blanc; restore the lives of Stephan, Adella and Michal Renfeld.” He watched as a slim figure appeared from nowhere, he gasped at first before being informed by the creature he could see but not make out any features of, “I am the one called the nameless one. I will return them as long as you promise me to make the child of your church, save that innocent life and I will return them.” The shadowy creature said, Antonio was stunned by the appearance of the nameless one, far more ancient than the Gauntlet of Power even, this awe inspiring creature was even far more ancient than Sygrace who was born in the year 5702 B. C. When Sygrace was born at this time, the creature called the nameless one was already incredibly ancient. Antonio only nodded in agreement. “Then consider it done.” Said the nameless creature and it vanished in a pearlesque cloud. A shower of soft sweet rain fell inside Saint Peter’s church, purifying everything the evil had defiled. In no time, the corpses were returned to life, as the nameless one said they would. Antonio was over-joyed. The happy family were also and the grateful father said, “Please, Father Antonio, since you saved our family, will you please baptize our son?” This was what the nameless one had requested, so Antonio said, “Yes. Of course I will.” So, he performed the baptismal as perfectly as he had been shown. Then a kiss was bestowed to Antonio from unseen lips on his forehead. It was the blessing of the nameless one. After this was done Antonio told them, “Go now to your homes and live in the ways of Christ for the rest of your lives.” The agreed they would gratefully. After this was done, Antonio took himself to the inn and sat wearily down. I had since opened the inn for business and J. Sebastian sat at their table as was customary for the three dear ones. J. Sebastian noticed his friend looked drawn and tired. “When last did you eat Antonio?” The concerned J. Sebastian asked, “I cannot recall.” Antonio said, “Then you must now.” J. Sebastian said forcefully, and signaled Jenna over. “Bring Antonio a breakfast steak with eggs and hash shredded potatoes and his tea, please Jenna?” He asked, “Very good J. Sebastian. And more coffee for you?” She smiled, “Always Mistress.” J. Sebastian smiled back. When Jenna brought Antonio’s breakfast the gentle priest asked, “How fares Pach?” “He is still asleep my dearest Antonio. He was in quite atrocious condition when you saved him.” J. Sebastian said factually. “Poor child. I will go check on him when we are finished here.” Antonio said, J. Sebastian smiled and looked to Antonio’s right arm, “You still bear the Gauntlet of Power my friend.” He said, “Have I? It is so light I had forgotten I was wearing it.” Antonio said as he looked down at his right arm still encased in the Gauntlet of Power. They laughed over the recollection, still their hearts were heavy with Pach being incapacitated. "I have composed a new piece as of yesterday, Antonio." J. Sebastian said in hopes of averting the sad events from the mind of his young Venetian friend, "You did? What is it called?" Antonio made inquiry, "I call it 'Air on the 'G' String'. I would love you to give your opinion." J. Sebastian said with a shy smile. "I will gladly give my opinion, my dearest J. Sebastian." Antonio said, he glanced up the staircase in an idea that he wished Pach could give his opinion as well. "When would you like to hear it then?" J. Sebastian asked in his attempt to avert Antonio's attention once more. "He is well. Jenna is with him." J. Sebastian said calmly, "Thank you J. Sebastian. I know what you are trying to do. We can go now. If you are finished with your breakfast that is." Antonio said, "I am. Then let us go. We will go to your church where it has a better effect." J. Sebastian said, "Splendid." Was all Antonio said and the two left the inn enroute to Saint Peter's church. As they walked they spoke of their music, while they talked neither noticed a fast approaching coach, the coach stopped suddenly and a large man leapt out and grabbed J. Sebastian, Antonio attempted to fight him off but another man dealt a great blow to Antonio which sent the priest to the ground in a daze. The two men loaded J. Sebastian into the coach, fighting and screaming though he were, and sped away as quickly as possible. Antonio got to his feet and shouted, "Stop! What Is The Meaning Of This?" He was excited with dire concern for his friend and cried out in anguish, "J. Sebastian!" The early morning was shattered by Antonio's cries. Suddenly he was startled by the touch of a soft hand on his shoulder. He turned suddenly and there stood Pach, pale and thin, but it was Pach. "Are you well enough to be up and about my friend?" Antonio asked suspiciously, "Of course. I still feel ever so slightly weak, but I am alright." Pach said, "Oh, Pach. Tragedy! Our dearest J. Sebastian has been abducted!" Antonio said excitedly so, much so that his strong Italian accent was making itself well known. Fortunately for Pach, he understood the beautiful language very well. "Calm, Antonio. I will get J. Sebastian back. Never concern yourself my dear friend." Pach said, "What if we cannot though?" Antonio demanded anxiously, "Come to the inn and we shall talk about it." Pach nearly insisted, finally after a considerable amount of persuasive measure, Pach talked Antonio into returning to the inn with him. Once there they sat and talked about the abduction of J. Sebastian, They drank tea as was the custom for these two. Suddenly, Antonio felt very sleepy and fell fast asleep. Only then did Pach leap to his feet and patted his pocket containing the package of sleeping powder given him by Physician Eisenbach. He then ran out after tossing a few silver pieces on the counter and called, "Put him to bed, please Viktor." The Dutch giant nodded his acknowledgement. The young kinetic recalled Antonio saying that J. Sebastian had been telling him about a new piece he had composed only the day before. Pach went to the modest home at 321 Cantata Lane and went in, "Forgive me, my friend, but I must find you." Pach spoke to an unseen J. Sebastian. Pach searched for the scroll on which 'Air on the 'G' String' was composed. 'Always you rolled your compositions into a scroll.', he thought to himself. Meanwhile, where was J. Sebastian? He had been taken by the henchmen of a particularly evil sorceress named Charlott Epstein. An altogether disagreeable woman in her late fifties with long, unkempt whitish hair and small blue eyes of a rather plain hue. She was not particularly heavy, but she did not have a stately figure as many baroque era ladies had. Charlott intended to marry young J. Sebastian as a retaliation against J. Sebastian's uncle, Johann Markus Bach, who long ago had agreed to marry Charlott but on the day of their wedding, he instead, eloped with the beautiful and vivacious Maria Louisa Templar. "So you see, young Sebastian. Had your uncle been an honorable man this would not be necessary." Charlott said, "But, I am only a child by comparison to yourself Mistress Epstein." J. Sebastian said before thinking of how dreadful that sounded. "It Matters Not! I Will Marry You!" Charlott said ruefully. "No! I refuse!" J. Sebastian said forcefully. "You Will! Or You Will Die, Child!" Charlott said, she then dealt a vicious blow to J. Sebastian's face. This fired the fury of the enraged boy. "Then I chose death over a marriage to the likes of you!" J. Sebastian said angrily, "Do not be insane. You will make a fine replacement." Charlott said, "Replacement?" J. Sebastian questioned, "Well, one of my statues was destroyed during a storm. I need a replacement." Charlott said, "What?" J. Sebastian asked, "After we are married I will encase you in granite and you will be my new statue. A perfect reproduction of Johann Sebastian Bach." Charlott said, "This Is An Outrage!" J. Sebastian shouted. "It is not so bad. You will be in fine company at least." Charlott said, "What do you mean?" J. Sebastian demanded, "Do you see the first statue? It is the encasement of your uncle, Johann Markus. I did that just before you were born. On December 16th, 1676." Charlott said, "You killed him?" J. Sebastian asked in shock, then came the horrific answer, "Well. He was not dead at the time of his imprisonment. But, I assure you, after a week of starvation he soon was." The evil witch said, J. Sebastian was then gripped with horror, "God of Martin Luther!" He gasped, “Sweet Son Of God! You Are A Murderess!” Then he asked more directly, “Is that what you intend to do to me?”, “My dearest Sebastian, of course. As I said I must have a new statue and who better to have near Johann Markus, then his distinguished nephew?” Charlott asked, J. Sebastian turned pale as a ghost, “Sweet Savior!” Was all he managed to whisper be fainted. Pach in the meantime, found the afore mentioned scroll and unwound it carefully so it could be easily replaced. He took the Gauntlet of Power and clasped it to his wrist and then took up his violin and played the piece in full in absolute reverse. The instant he reached the end (or beginning in this case), he vanished to the very realm of Charlott Epstein. He wandered in search of his missing friend using his amazing mind to locate J. Sebastian, who had by this time, been taken to a chapel and forced to marry Charlott Epstein. The evil priests wife held an axe to the statue of Johann Markus Bach and threatened to destroy it, therefore destroying the essence of J. Sebastian’s uncle. Tearfully, J. Sebastian allowed this horrid union. ‘I simply cannot actually be marrying this crone.’ J. Sebastian thought as he dared not look to the side at that horror. “Surely, even Gliden Subrad cannot be so ugly as you.” J. Sebastian said before he thought, he gasped as soon as he heard these words escape his lips. “Fool!” Charlott hissed as she dealt a vicious blow to J. Sebastian’s face, “Finish the ceremony. Now!” The evil woman demanded, and the priest said, “I pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your wife.” J. Sebastian’s eyes grew wide with terror, “Surely, you jest.” He said in disbelief. “He does not jest Bach.” Charlott said as she grabbed J. Sebastian and forced him to kiss her. J. Sebastian reeled back and gasped for breath, “My Sweet Savior!” He gasped, “No One Will Save You Sebastian! Your Fate Is The Same As Markus’ After We Consummate Our Marriage That Is!” Charlott said in her cracked gravelly voice. “Oh God of Martin Luther. Pach!” J. Sebastian shouted nervously, Charlott laughed wickedly and then had her men take J. Sebastian to her chamber. They did and unceremoniously, ripped off his shirt and then tied his wrists to the bedposts. ‘Pach! Can you hear me?’ J. Sebastian cried in his mind ‘I can hear you, J. Sebastian, know that I am looking for you.’ Pach said as he looked everywhere he could. Tragically, Pach was not in time to prevent the horrific ordeal of the consummation of the unholy union as Charlott took full advantage of J. Sebastian. After she did, she took the torn musician and laid him on a table. “It is time Bach. Time for you to join your ancestor in immortality!” The wicked Charlott said, “Nooooooooo!” J. Sebastian cried and just as she began the process, Pach burst in and immediately one of Charlott’s men attacked the young one. Using his mind shroud, Pach bound the man with unseen binding cloths. Charlott spat and growled, “You’ll not save this one Warlock!” “That, evil woman is where you are so wrong!” Pach said as he advanced, Charlott knew she could not let the kinetic near enough to use a telepathic portal. She turned suddenly with a large sword in her hand, swung it quickly, and grazed Pach’s arm. The kinetic flinched but did not cry out. “Fool! This Concerns You Not! Begone, Warlock!” Charlott hissed venomously, “You have taken one of my friends. Therefore Madam Epstein, you have made it my concern!” Pach shot back quickly. She lunged at him and in a heartbeat, Pach ran by her and found himself with J. Sebastian. He grabbed ahold and said, “Close your eyes.” Without hesitation, J. Sebastian did exactly that and Pach formed a portal out of that horrible place. Charlott screamed her rage and cursed Pach for every breath he drew. In such a haste was Pach that his aim was off and he and J. Sebastian landed not on the bed in J. Sebastian’s chamber as planned, but rather, they were deposited roughly on the floor of that chamber. Then Pach asked J. Sebastian, “Are you alright?” “I am. Thank you Pach. I owe you my life!” J. Sebastian said breathlessly. “Nonsense. You are my friend. Your friendship is all you owe me.” Pach said. The two laughed joyously as they realized they were free and J. Sebastian was safe. J. Sebastian did ask one question of Pach though, “We were married and we did consummate our marriage, therefore, am I actually married to that monster?” “No, her evil intent against you annulled that marriage.” Pach answered. Pach was very knowledgeable of such affairs. They went to the inn and joined Antonio who had awakened, they were merrily enjoying life again, when Pach was taken by a wave of sleepiness. He fell asleep in a few minutes after drinking his tea. Antonio leaned over the young kinetic and whispered, “Do not ever do that again, my wily young friend.” Then everyone laughed as Viktor carried Pach up to bed. Life was good again.
