Sword of Souls
"Sword of Souls"
My young musician friends were sitting at their usual table on May 1, 1696 eating thier fine lunches when a woman ran in screaming, "My Husband Has Just Been Murdered!" The boys and Viktor and I ran out to an alleyway, there, sure as the world, lay a man slain by a large sword or so it would seem.
"Did you see the weapon?" Asked J. Sebastian, "You mean Excalibur? I certainlly did. It looks like something you can make with your mind, Warlock." she said to Pach who did not answer except one word, "Brodrish!" And he looked to a large house on the hill near the old grain silo. J. Sebastian said nothing either, but he must have known what Pach meant, as he too peered toward the large house. Pach went to his home, got the Gauntlet of Power and headed toward the house of dread.
He was distracted when he saw a creature he did not recognize near the cemetary. What was this thing? 'Not a werewolf.' Pach thought to himself with a none too subdued sigh of relief, 'Not a windego.' He thought with a shudder, he went to investigate because he knew he could not allow strange beasts in Vienna. He carefully entered the old cemetery and followed the fleeting vision of this creature which appeared to be about 74 inches tall.
Meanwhile, J. Sebastian did make it to the old house and went in. "Brodrish! I know you are here you old murderer!" The Saxon boy called out. In a second the door closed behind J. Sebastian and an ugly old man stood there with the murder weapon in hand. "Ah Johann Sebastian. A nice surprise. I was hoping for this opportunity to add you now." Said Brodrish, J. sebastian gasped and said, "God of Martin Luther! The Sword of Souls! You are in leagues with her!" "Yes. And now you will join your father." Brodrish said wickedly,he swung the heavy sword but missed J. Sebastian, fortunatly. The Saxon ran for the door and yanked it open so hard he nearly pulled it off its hinges. He ran like the wind for anywhere else. He ran into the town square and turned to see Brodrish right behind him. He screamed the sound of which caught Pach's sharp ears.
Pach came running and rounded the square turn just as Brodrish smote J. Sebastian, "Mary Magdelaine! NO!" Brodrish turned to face Pach, "Champion! Are you Regis?" He demanded, "I am Johann. You have taken my kindred, foul wretch!" Pach growled, "Now I will take you Champion!" Brodrish said wickedly, "You will not now, nor anytime hereafter!" Pach growled viciously. And with that Pach formed the infamous Sword of Athena, and smote Brodrish. This, however did not revive J. Sebastian,which puzzled Pach as Antonio joined him. "Take him to the infrimary, let no one touch them till I come." Said Pach,"Yes Pach, do you know what is going on?" Antonio asked, "I have an idea. I shall return soon."Pach said cautiously. So Antonio took J. Sebastian to the infirmary and Pach took off in pursuit of the creature from the cemetery.
Pach followed the mysterious creature to BayBridge and crossed it, he was now in the realm called BloodRealm, 'At least it is not Rof.' He thought. Suddenly the creature showed itself, a horrific monster, half woman, half skeletal. Pach recognized her at last, "Bridena SoulStealer! You!" He hissed venomously, "Champion! Say not so! Are you Regis?" She growlled, "I am Johann, son of Richard, brother of Regis Pachelbel, who passed from life the year of my birth." Pach said, "Regis? Dead? Then I will take you in his stead." Bridena said with a vicious roar, and she swung her soul stealing claws at the boy who side stepped her easily. He then drew a black crossbow, remenesent of the one used by Gyada and shot at her, the first arrow missed her.
Back in Vienna the infirmary workers prepared to cremate the bodies of those who died mysteriously as they were considered cursed. "NO! They are not dead!" Antonio screamed excitedly, "They are Antonio, there is no heartbeat or anything like that, they are dead my good priest." The cremator said carelessly,'Pach, please hurry or we will lose J. Sebastian and the others.' Antonio pleaded.
Pach stood move for move against Bridena SoulStealer, his moves of cat-like grace made him hard for her to hit, but she managed to scratch him on his right arm, which healed up instantly with the sounds of a Druidic chant indicating, "Thy poison effects him noy foul monster", then Pach delivered a slice from the sword of Ares which ripped open Bridena and all the souls she had swallowed were released, including J. Sebastian. At the instant he was lain on the cremators table, J. Sebastian woke and freed before any harm befell him as did the others a well. "You did it Pach! Praise God! Praise God!" Antonio wept with joy, "He sure did Antonio, he sure did." J. Sebastian sighed happy to be alive once more.
When Pach got home, he was greeted by all the "souls" he saved that day, the day Bridena went away.
